Profit & Margin Analytics shows what each Shopify order actually kept, after cost of goods, payment processing fees, real shipping cost, discounts and refunds. Shopify Analytics reports revenue and, at best, a gross margin from unit cost. This measures the distance between the two.
It reads orders and inventory costs through the Admin API, writes a per-order margin snapshot so historical figures stay stable when costs change, and reconciles its own totals against the Shopify admin line by line.
What It Calculates
Margin is calculated on tax-excluded amounts, then reduced by everything that actually left the business on that order.
Cost of Goods
Unit cost from the inventory item by default, with CSV override per variant and cost history, so an order placed in March keeps the cost that applied in March.
Payment Fees
Fees taken per transaction from the payment record rather than an assumed flat percentage, which is where most margin dashboards quietly drift.
Real Shipping Cost
What the label actually cost, where that is available, set against what the customer was charged for shipping.
Reports and Reconciliation
Every Breakdown
Net profit by order, product, variant, collection, day and period, with the cost lines shown rather than folded into one number.
Dashboard KPIs
Net margin, average order profit and contribution after fees, for the period you choose.
Refunds Handled
Full and partial refunds reverse cost of goods correctly instead of leaving profit overstated on returned stock.
Discounts and Codes
Order and line level discounts, automatic discounts and codes are applied where they actually fall.
Reconciliation View
Totals tied back to Shopify Analytics with the differences explained, because a number you cannot reconcile is a number you will not trust.
Exports
CSV export of any report, at the grain you are looking at, for whoever does your books.
Planned After Launch
On the roadmap rather than in the first release, listed so the scope is clear up front.
- Ad spend import from Meta and Google for blended and per-product ROAS
- Customer lifetime value by acquisition cohort
- A scheduled email digest, daily or weekly
- Multi-currency reporting for stores selling across markets
Who It Is For
The app earns its place when costs vary across the catalogue, when fees and shipping are big enough to move the margin, and when the answer to “which products actually make money” is currently a spreadsheet.
- Stores past hobby scale where gross revenue no longer tells you much
- Catalogues with a wide spread of cost prices and margins
- Merchants carrying high return rates, where refunds distort the picture
- Anyone who has noticed their analytics app and the Shopify admin disagree
