Nexus Tracker for WooCommerce

WooCommerce plugin. In development.

An economic nexus tracker that warns you before you cross a state threshold

Nexus Tracker for WooCommerce measures your order data against US economic nexus thresholds state by state, and raises an alert while you still have time to register.

Nexus Tracker for WooCommerce, an economic nexus tracking plugin by Seninweb

What It Does

Economic nexus is the point at which selling into a US state creates an obligation to register for and collect that state’s sales tax. It is triggered by your own sales activity, usually revenue over a period, order count, or either one, and the numbers differ from state to state.

Nexus Tracker for WooCommerce tracks sales totals and order counts per state from your WooCommerce order data, compares them against each state’s economic nexus threshold, and alerts you as a state approaches its limit. It runs in the WordPress admin against the order data you already have.

It is a monitoring tool, not a tax engine. It is built to answer when do I have nexus in this state, which is a different question from what rate do I charge at this address. If you already run a rate calculation service, this sits alongside it and watches the thresholds that service does not.

The Problem It Solves

Economic nexus is crossed quietly. Nothing in WooCommerce flags it, the buyer does not know, and the state does not write to you. A store passes a threshold in March, keeps selling untaxed through the year, and discovers the obligation when an accountant asks or a notice arrives.

By then the liability has compounded:

Key Features

Scoped around threshold monitoring rather than rate calculation.

Sales tracked per state

Sales totals and order counts accumulated by state from your existing WooCommerce order data.

Thresholds compared state by state

Your activity measured against each state’s economic nexus threshold rather than a single national number.

Alerts before you cross

A warning as a state approaches its threshold, while registering is still a planning decision rather than a cleanup job.

Frequently Asked Questions

Economic nexus is the threshold at which your sales into a US state create an obligation to register for and collect that state’s sales tax, based on your own sales activity rather than on having an office or staff there. Thresholds are set per state and are typically measured on revenue, transaction count, or both, over a defined period.

It is a sales tax nexus tracking tool rather than a rate calculator. It answers where you have an obligation. It does not calculate the rate to charge at checkout, and it does not file returns.

No, and it is not meant to. Rate services calculate what to charge once you are registered somewhere. This watches the thresholds that determine where you should be registered in the first place.

Thresholds change, which is exactly why a one-off spreadsheet fails. How threshold data is maintained and updated will be documented at release rather than claimed in advance.

Marketplace facilitator rules change how some sales count toward a threshold, and the handling of channel sales will be documented at release. If this matters to your store, it is worth telling us now while the scope is open.

No. This is a monitoring tool that reports on your own sales data. Decisions about registration and filing should be made with a qualified tax professional.

Economic Nexus Tracking for WooCommerce

Sales tax nexus tracking became a problem for ordinary online stores once economic nexus replaced physical presence as the test. A store run from one state can now owe registration in a dozen others purely because of where its customers happen to live, and the threshold that triggers it is measured in the store’s own sales data. That data sits in WooCommerce already. What is missing is anything watching it.

Nexus Tracker for WooCommerce is being built as that watcher. It accumulates sales and order counts by state, compares them against economic nexus thresholds by state, and raises an alert as a threshold approaches. The question it answers is when do I have nexus in a given state, asked continuously rather than once a year.

The cost of getting this wrong is asymmetric. Registering somewhere slightly early is an administrative inconvenience. Discovering an obligation eighteen months late means uncollected tax you cannot recover from customers, plus penalties and interest on top. A WooCommerce sales tax nexus monitor is cheap insurance against a liability that compounds silently.

The plugin is in development. There is no download, version or price yet, and this page will carry all of them at release along with installation steps and a changelog. It is listed with our other WordPress plugins. If you are already unsure which states you have crossed into, that is worth a conversation now.
